Black Friday — what is it?
It’s one of the favourite days of the year for anyone hunting for the best bargains. More precisely, Black Friday is the name of the big shop sales day that takes place every year at the end of November. This great shopping holiday came to us from the USA, where it’s hugely popular. In the USA, Black Friday is celebrated after Thanksgiving, which kicks off the big preparations for Christmas. It’s no different in Poland!
On Black Friday, or “Czarny Piątek” in the Polish version, both bricks-and-mortar and online shops offer big discounts on their products. Discounts can reach as much as several tens of percent! Shops also extend their opening hours, and some are even open around the clock.
When does Black Friday start?
This year Black Friday falls on 25 November 2022, that is, on the last Friday of the month. Some shops start celebrating Black Friday as early as 00:01 and only finish at 23:59.
How long does Black Friday last?
Black Friday can last one day, or it can last a whole week or even a month; some brands decide to extend the promotional event and hold what’s known as Black Week or Black Month.
What’s more, Black Friday is followed by what’s known as Cyber Monday, a day of online discounts. This year it falls on 28 November 2022. And believe us, it’s a real treat, especially for anyone hunting for electronics, games or discounts on online services.
What kinds of deals can you snap up on Black Friday?
Retailers decide for themselves which promotions they’ll run for Black Friday. Most are big percentage discounts, such as -40% to -70%, but there are often discount codes that lower product prices too. Besides discounts, there are promotions along the lines of buy 2 products and get the 3rd free. Other deals include free delivery and 0% instalments.
Which shops take part in Black Friday promotions?
In most e-commerce shops you’re sure to find interesting Black Friday, or even Black Week, offers. Bigger brands announce their plans in advance, so you’ll find information about the sales on their websites already.
There’ll certainly be no shortage of attractive deals in bricks-and-mortar shops either: most clothing boutiques, bookshops, electronics and home appliance shops, and even supermarkets decide to take part in Black Friday and hold sales.

How to find the best Black Friday 2022 deals?
It’s hard to resist shopping on Black Friday, especially with so many shops tempting you with their offers. If you’re keen to find the best bargains, we recommend that you:
- sign up in advance for the newsletter of your favourite brand/shop – information about planned BF sales very often appears well ahead of time, and there’s a good chance you’ll get an email alert when the promotion starts.
- follow websites dedicated to deals, such as Pepper, AleRabat or Picodi,
- compare prices before and during Black Friday using price comparison sites such as Ceneo,
- keep an eye out for leaflets and emails included with previous orders – some online shops include dedicated leaflets with discounts to use on BF in their customers’ orders. Before you throw away everything from the box your order came in, it’s worth checking whether there’s a discount leaflet hiding at the bottom.
Black Friday can really work its charm on even the most rational minds with its offers, so it’s also worth getting to know a few marketing tricks that supermarkets use very often.
