Who has to use the e-TOLL system and how does it work in 2026? [update]

1 July 2023

Text updated: March 2026

e-TOLL is Poland’s electronic toll system for driving on toll roads. It applies mainly to vehicles and vehicle combinations with a GVW (permissible gross vehicle weight) above 3.5 tonnes, as well as buses. Since 1 July 2023, light vehicles no longer pay on the state-run sections of the A2 Konin–Stryków and A4 Wrocław–Sośnica, but from 1 February 2026 the rates and the extent of the toll road network have changed.

Whatever the situation, with the notiOne GPS PLUS you will always be ready!

The notiOne tracker with e-TOLL support – who is it for after the changes?

After the changes, the notiOne GPS PLUS will be the ideal solution for drivers of heavy vehicles travelling on motorway sections such as the A2 Konin–Stryków and A4 Wrocław–Sośnica. With the notiOne GPS PLUS and its e-TOLL support, the toll is charged automatically, so you can enjoy an uninterrupted drive without having to stop and hunt for a payment card or cash.

How does the e-TOLL system work?

e-TOLL works on the basis of the vehicle’s geolocation data. The system receives route information from a mobile app or an on-board device and uses it to charge the toll for driving on roads covered by the system. For the driver, this means that once they have registered correctly and assigned a device, the toll is charged automatically.

The eTOLL system – what to watch out for?

From 2011 we used the viaTOLL system, which worked over a radio link using dedicated devices installed in vehicles. There were cases, however, where viaTOLL wrongly indicated that a driver had passed through a toll gantry, or overcharged the toll several times over. With the new eTOLL system we can avoid situations like these. Registration in the eTOLL toll collection system is mandatory for anyone who wants to drive on toll roads in a vehicle or vehicle combination weighing more than 3.5 tonnes.

PLEASE NOTE! If your passenger car or light vehicle exceeds 3.5 tonnes together with a trailer and this is reflected in the GVW, the vehicle will be classified as a heavy vehicle with a trailer attached. In that case you will be obliged to pay the toll.

What changed in e-TOLL in 2026?

From 1 February 2026, the toll road network was expanded and the e-TOLL rates were changed. This means that older information about the system, based solely on the 2023 changes, no longer gives the full picture. The current list of toll roads and rates is published on the official e-TOLL website.

A notiOne tracker for e-TOLL – are there extra costs?

With the notiOne GPS PLUS we can pay for our journeys quickly and conveniently – contactlessly and automatically. It does not require signing any service contracts or paying an additional subscription, as the manufacturers of other devices do. Using the notiOne app and the notiOne GPS PLUS device, we can start using the service quickly and at no extra cost.

Tax relief for eTOLL users – worth knowing!

The Ministry of Finance has prepared a special tax relief for businesses using the e-TOLL system. Its purpose is to offset the cost of purchasing GPS trackers. The relief amounts to PLN 500 for each vehicle that has used the eTOLL system during the year.
